Bilateral Meeting with His Majesty King Letsie III of the Kingdom of Lesotho

Rome - The FAO Director General, Dr Qu Dongyu, met today with His Majesty King Letsie III, of the Kingdom of Lesotho on the margins of the First FAO Global Exhibition – From Seeds to Foods in the context of the 2025 World Food Forum and FAO's 80th Anniversary celebrations.
The Director-General welcomed His Majesty the King and thanked him for the steadfast and enduring solidarity with FAO, noting in particular the significance at the time when FAO celebrated 80 years of its existence. He commended His Majesty for the consistent commitment in support of FAO’s mandate, and presented the King with the document setting out the Lesotho Special Programme for Agrifood Systems Transformation.
His Majesty the King thanked the Director-General and FAO and expressed his personal appreciation, and on behalf of the government of the Kingdom of Lesotho, for FAO’s support to the country, especially with regard to the Special Programme for Agrifood Systems Transformation. His Majesty noted that its implementation had started and further recognized the strategic approach of the programme towards agriculture development. The King further recognized the concerted joint efforts to attain food security, to build capacity for small-scale farmers, develop agro-processing and improve the value chain.
