Bilateral meeting with Ms Livija Pavićević, State Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, and Ms Livija Pavićević, State Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia, met at FAO headquarters in Rome to discuss ways to further foster collaboration between FAO and Serbia.

The State Secretary expressed appreciation for the constructive and effective cooperation between FAO and Serbia, and in particular referred to the close cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture which led to the development of a Green Climate Fund (GCF) project proposal to contribute to decarbonization through investments in mitigation and adaptation measures. Once the project is approved, this would be Serbia’s first full GCF project and the biggest GCF project in the region. The State Secretary further informed the Director-General that the Government was committed to further supporting the FAO Office in Serbia to to increase its technical and administrative capacity in the country.

Finally, the State Secretary also commended FAO for its programme of work in the country, in particular with regard to strengthening the resilience of the agriculture sector to disasters and climate change, sustainable management of natural resources and biodiversity and agrifood systems transformation, especially sustainable and green transformation.

The pair agreed to continue working together to further strengthen collaboration, including in the region, in support of the SDGs and the Four Betters to ensure no one is left behind.
