Bilateral meeting with H.E. Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research of Pakistan

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met today with H.E. Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research of Pakistan, at the Organization’s headquarters on the margins of the 179th Session of the FAO Council.

The Director-General welcomed the Minister to FAO once again recalling their previous meeting. The Director-General expressed appreciation for the Federal Minister’s contribution to Pakistan’s agriculture sector, and the innovations he had introduced. He commended Pakistan’s longtime good relationship and collaboration with the Organization and reiterated FAO’s commitment to continue to support Pakistan’s agricultural development, in line with the vision of the Four Betters as set out in the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31: Better Production, Better Nutrition, a Better Environment and a Better life, leaving no one behind.

The Federal Minister thanked the Director-General and praised FAO’s long-standing support to Pakistan through the field programmes conducted in the country during the past decades. He shared his future vision on further developing the agriculture sector in Pakistan and welcomed FAO’s continuous support in this regard, in particular in line with national priority areas such as improving agricultural productivity, seeds breeding and water management, among others.

Both sides expressed readiness to further strengthen cooperation.
