Bilateral meeting with The Honourable Floyd Green, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining of Jamaica

Rome – FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today with The Honourable Floyd Green, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining of Jamaica, on the margins of the World Food Forum 2025 and FAO’s 80th Anniversary celebrations taking place at the Organization’s headquarters in Rome.

The Director-General welcomed Minister Green and commended the alliance with Jamaica and the Caribbean countries.

The Minister thanked the Director-General, praising the successful outcome of the World Food Forum on FAO's 80th Anniversary. The Minister emphasized Jamaica's role in the Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Investment Proposal under the FAO Hand-in-Hand Initiative. On the country’s portfolio, he mentioned the high development impact of projects in general, providing examples in mariculture and aquaculture. Finally, the Minister appreciated FAO's renewed focus on SIDS under Dr QU's leadership and announced that Jamaica would host the Caribbean Week of Agriculture next year.

The Director-General thanked the Minister, expressing his focus on SIDS, including in the Caribbean region, and commended Jamaica for its efforts to overcome developmental challenges.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to achieving sustainable agrifood systems in Jamaica, the Caribbean and beyond, that leave no one behind.
