Bilateral meeting with H.E. Elena Fastova, the First Deputy Minister for Agriculture of the Russian Federation

Rome - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met with H.E. Elena Fastova, the First Deputy Minister for Agriculture of the Russian Federation to review the ongoing cooperation between FAO and the Russian Federation and to explore opportunities for strengthening collaboration in support of global food security and agricultural innovation.

The Director-General commended the Russian Federation for the progress achieved in its agricultural sector over the past decade and for its updated National Food Security Doctrine, adopted in March 2025. The Director-General noted Russia’s achievements in agricultural production and exports and expressed appreciation for the country’s increasing collaboration with FAO.

The First Deputy Minister congratulated FAO on its 80’s anniversary and  reaffirmed the Government’s readiness to continue cooperation with FAO, including through voluntary contributions and joint initiatives in the areas of climate-resilient agriculture, soil management, and antimicrobial resistance. Both sides discussed ongoing and prospective projects, including the next phase of collaboration under the Global Soil Partnership, as well as regional initiatives on animal health and plant protection.
