Conferment of the Agricola Medal to H.E Abd El Fatah El Sisi, President of Egypt, in a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt

Cairo – The FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today with H.E. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, during which the Prime Minister received on behalf of H.E. Abd El Fatah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the FAO Agricola Medal.

The Director-General conveyed his warm congratulations to the President for the conferment of the prestigious Agricola Medal, which is the highest honour bestowed by the FAO Director-General. He highlighted that the medal is awarded to distinguished world leaders who have made exceptional contributions to advancing food security, poverty reduction, and improved nutrition, in alignment with FAO’s mandate.

The Director-General underlined that the Agricola Medal was being conferred to President El-Sisi in recognition of his leadership in transforming agrifood systems in Egypt, strengthening national food security, and reinforcing Egypt’s vital regional role. He commended the country’s strategic investments in agricultural modernization, water efficiency, climate resilience, and rural development, efforts that demonstrate a clear long-term vision and strong political commitment. He further emphasized Egypt’s leadership in supporting neighboring countries

The Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of President El Sisi and affirmed Egypt’s readiness to continue cooperating with FAO in advancing agrifood systems transformation and enhancing food security. The Prime Minister thanked the Director-General for FAO’s longstanding partnership and welcomed further collaboration in the years ahead.

The Director-General reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to strengthening its close collaboration with Egypt in support of the Four Betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life for all, in line with FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-31.

The Agricola Medal is awarded to distinguished individuals who have played an exceptional role in advancing efforts toward global food security, improved nutrition and agricultural development. It is considered one of the highest honours granted by the Organization in recognition of outstanding leadership and tangible contributions in these fields.
