Meeting with The Honourable Demba Sabally, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of The Gambia

Rabat - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today in Rabat with The Honourable Demba Sabally, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of The Gambia, on the margins of the 33rd Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa (ARC33).
The Director-General thanked the Minister for the good collaboration on key priorities in the country, noting in particular the need for agriculture mechanization.
The Minister thanked the Director-General for the initiatives by FAO in The Gambia and stated that the government was relying on FAO to provide the technical support needed for the development and implementation of a comprehensive Irrigation Master Plan. The Minister also indicated that they needed to strengthen their participation in the Hand-in-Hand Initiative.
The Director-General reaffirmed FAO’s willingness to provide all the technical support needed and invited The Gambia to present the plan at the Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum to be held during the World Food Forum in October 2024 to attract investment.
Both agreed to continue working together towards the transformation of The Gambia’s agrifood system.
