Georgetown, Guyana - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met H.E. Mrs. Laura Suazo, State Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock, of the Republic of Honduras on the sidelines of the FAO Regional Ministerial Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC38) in Georgetown, Guyana.
During the meeting, the Minister highlighted that Honduras is committed to the transformation of its agrifood system. She added that both the FAO “Soil mapping for resilient agrifood systems”(SoilFER) programme, as well as the FAO Hand-in-Hand Initiative in Honduras will provide benefits in guiding the Government and local farmers to combat global challenges, including land and soil degradation, loss of biodiversity, and declining agricultural production.
The Director-General suggested that Honduras consider having a national agriculture exhibition in its capital or another city to present farmers' best products and develop local brands.
The pair further exchanged views on the importance of enhancing production and productivity through technical support and innovations to increase value and achieve the transformation of agrifood systems.
