2. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

The author wishes to express his sincere thanks to the officials of the Government of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and to all the others who offered their fullest cooperation during his mission. The arrangements for travel were excellent, and the utmost courtesy and hospitality were extended to him.

Thanks are due especially to Mr. Jordan Blaževski, Assistant-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, for his explanation of the general situation concerning inland fisheries and his sympathetic reception of the author's verbal report.

Acknowledgment is also made of the aid rendered by Miss E. Babió, Assistant-Secretary of the Yugoslav National FAO Committee, and Mrs. Cosić of the Federal Administration for International Technical Cooperation (FAITC) in planning the program. Ing. Cvjetan Bojčić, Director of “Kornatexport”, Poslovno udruzenje privrednih organizacija slatkovodnog ribarstva, Zagreb, and Mr. Lj. Vujačić, Secretary of its branch in Beograd, were of inestimable aid in their guidance of the field work and contribution of information on the commercial fisheries of the country. Conversely, Dr. Krešimir Pažur of the Agrarni Institut, Zagreb, who devoted a day to the field work, aided in an evaluation of the sport fisheries and advised on fishery economics.

Thanks are also due to two old friends, Professor Siniša Stankovió, Director, and Dr. Draga Janković of the Biološki Institut sr Srbije, Beograd, for making a trip to Sisevac Trout Farm possible.

Very special mention is accorded Miss Vera Mitrović, Assistant, Department of Zoology, School of Agriculture (Zemun) Beograd, who served as a guide throughout the mission and acted as interpreter. Her willingness to share her intimate knowledge of the Yugoslav fisheries and her admirable patience and spirit through long days of field work are warmly appreciated.

Thanks are accorded all the others mentioned in the itinerary (Appendix 1) and their co-workers for their readiness to demonstrate their work and discuss their problems, and for their pleasant hospitality.

Lastly, the indispensable advice of Dr. Sudhir Sen, Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Yugoslavia, coupled with the aid of his staff, is gratefully acknowledged.
