Monday, 18-Depart Rome 17.15

Tuesday, 19-Meeting with Dr. Sudhir Sen, Representative, UNDP, in Yugoslavia.
-Visit to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to discuss objectives of the survey and the itinerary.
 Meeting with Mrs. Cosió of FAITC; Miss E. Babió, Assistant-Secretary, Yugoslav National FAO Committee; Mr. Lj. Vujačić of “Kornat Export-Import”, Beograd; and Miss Vera Mitrovió, Assistant, Department of Zoology, University of Agriculture, Zemun. 1
-Visit offices and central station of Ribarsko gazdinstvo, Beograd, to discuss the problems of a commercial fisheries organization: fisheries of open waters, fishing gear, transport, storage, distribution, marketing and fish farming.
 Met with Ing. J. Mitrović and Mr. Stejić.
-Visit to the Sava River, Beograd, to see storage facilities for live fish.
-Visit to a new carp farm, Belo Blato, in the Pančevački Rit area near Beograd.
-Visit to experimental warm-water fish ponds belonging to the fishery institute now merged with Ribarsko gazdinstvo.
-Visit to a supermarket, Beograd, to look at frozen fish products.
-Spent night in Beograd.
Wednesday, 20-By auto from Beograd via Novi Sad and Sombor to Apatin on the Danube River.
-Visited the Jelen open water fishing center. Tour of the fishing village and the factory to see boat construction, net making, fishing boats and gear, fish processing factory (fresh fish, cannery, fish meal). Discussions with Ing. Rade Brandić (Forestry, Wildlife) and Mr. U. Raićević (Veterinary/Technologist).
-Drove via Batina to Osijek for the night.
Thursday, 21-Drove from Osijek to Grudnjak Carp Farm near Orahovica. Tour of the farm, including its experimental station, and area devoted to duck rearing on fish ponds. Discussions with Dr. Ing. Boris Ršaničanin, the manager of the farm.
-Spent night at Orahovica.
Friday, 22-Drove from Orahovica to Jelas Polje Carp Farm near Slavonski Brod. Tour of the fish farm belonging to a large agro-kombinat, especially to see new ponds under construction. Discussions with officials of the agro-kombinat and with Mr. Ivan Novotny of the Našice Fish Farm, who was acting as an advisor for the Jelas Polje Farm. 1
-Drove to Zagreb for the night.
Saturday, 23-Visited Velika Gorica and Bushevac to see intensive duck farming - a new industry in Yugoslavia.
-In the afternoon to trout farm of SLJEME, an agro-industrial-kombinat, on the Bregana River, 45 km from Zagreb, near Samobor.
-Returned to Zagreb for the night.
Sunday, 24-Drove from Zagreb to the lakes of Plitvice in the National Park and to various sport fishing streams (tourist attractions). Continued to the River Gacko near Otočac, a fine chalk stream providing excellent trout fishing. Inspection of trout hatchery. Experimental netting of brown trout.
-Discussion with the manager of the fishery on the Gacko and discussion throughout the trip with Dr. Krešimir Pažur, economist of the Agrarni Institut, Zagreb, and officer of a major sport fishermen's association, especially on sport fishing and the economics of inland fisheries.
-Returned to Zagreb for the night.
Monday, 25-Visit to the Veterinary Faculty, University of Zagreb. Inspection of laboratories dealing with fish and fish diseases. Discussion with Professor I. Tomasec and his staff of: training in fish culture and pathology; research on and control of fish diseases; research on physiology and fish nutrition; cooperation with fish farmers.
-Visit to the Institut za Slatkovodno Ribarstvo. Inspection of new offices and laboratory, Adžijina ul. 2, Zagreb. Meeting with the Director, Dr. Zlatko Livojević, and his staff. Discussion of: work of the Institute; funding of research; stream and lake surveys; other investigations on open waters including those on endemic fish species; problems of pond fish culture; feasibility studies of fish farm construction; design of distribution and storage centers; etc.
-Visit to offices of “Kornat Export-Import”, Zagreb. Discussion with the Director, Ing. Cvjetan Bojčić, of: this trade organization for the inland fisheries of Yugoslavia and its role in coordination between scientific institutes and fish producers; its publications; staffing; many problems of inland fisheries.
-Drove to Beograd with Ing. Bojčić.
Tuesday, 26-Meeting in Beograd with Dr. Sen at the UNDP office.
-Meeting with Mr. Jordan Blaževski, Assistant-Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry (attended by Miss E. Babić, Ing. Bojčić, Miss Vera Mitrović, and Mr. Sedin of the UNDP office). A verbal report on the mission was given to the Secretary.
-Visit to the Beograd office of “Kornat Export-Import” and discussion with Mr. Lj. Vujačić of its work.
-Drove to Ribarsko Gazdinstvo Ečka, one of the oldest and largest carp farms in Yugoslavia, about 70 km from Beograd, near Zrenjanin, accompanied by Dr. Draga Janković of the Biološki Institut sr Srbije, Beograd. Met the Director of Ečka Farm, Ing. Kovačević, and was guided through the farm by Ing. Djordjević of Ečka and Professor J. Plančić of Zagreb. Discussed the special problems of large farms and modernization of old ones; effect of water pollution on carp culture and river transport of live fish; etc. Viewed the polluted stream, Begej.
-Returned to Beograd.
Wednesday, 27-Meeting with Dr. Sen, UNDP office.
-Read reports and worked on notes.
Thursday, 28-Visit to the Biološki Institut, Beograd. Discussion with Professor Siniša Stanković, Director of the Institute, on scientific research and fishery management, especially that for natural waters.
-Drove (accompanied by Dr. Janković and, as usual, by Miss Mitrović) to Sisevac Trout Farm, 155 km from Beograd, near Cuprija. Tour of farm and discussion with the manager, V. Tasić, on problems of trout culture with special reference to: feeds, disease, methods of transport and export market.
 Return to Beograd.
Friday, 29-Depart Beograd 9.30
Return to Rome 13.20.
