GAC 2024: Empowering Youth and Women to Transform Agrifood Systems Globally

The Global AgriInno Challenge 2024, co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Zhejiang University, with the support of Pinduoduo, MARA and the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center in China, is a prestigious initiative designed to empower youth and women to harness innovation, entrepreneurship, and cutting-edge technologies to address the pressing challenges of agrifood transformation.

This year’s challenge focuses on driving transformative change in agrifood systems through the integration of Inclusive AI and Emerging Technologies. Anchored in the Four Betters—better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life—the challenge seeks to harness innovation to address critical issues and promote sustainable solutions across the agrifood sector.  

The 2024 edition has attracted a record number of applications, with 202 submissions from  40 countries. Out of this impressive pool, ten youth-led innovation solutions were selected for their exceptional potential to reshape agrifood systems and create sustainable impacts.  

The selected innovative solutions are:

4. Akatale on Cloud: A Waste to Value Solution 
5. Climate Smart Irrigator 
6. MyAgro360 
7. AGRAYU - Digital Identity for Rural Agriculture 
8. Tech4Agri 360 
9. Blue Sky Empowering Agriculture - Multi-Modular Integrated Pest and Disease Management System 
10. Bionic Agriculture System 

The final teams will pitch their innovative solutions to a global panel of judges and a worldwide audience in Hangzhou, China on September 26, 2024. The event will be streamed online, offering a unique opportunity to witness the next generation of agrifood innovation and see how young entrepreneurs are driving the future of sustainable agriculture.
