The Third African Union - European Union Agriculture Ministerial Conference

FAO welcomes the 3rd AU-EU Agriculture Ministerial Conference in FAO HQ, Rome on the 21st of June 2019. The conference is co-hosted by the African Union Commission and the European Commission.

The AU Commissioner for Agriculture and rural economy, Ms Josefa Sacko and her counterpart the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and rural development, Mr. Phil Hogan are expected to attend.

The African Union (AU) – European Union (EU) ministerial meetings take place on an ad hoc basis to monitor the progress achieved between summits, and to advance cooperation between both continents in certain fields.

The Agricultural Ministerial conference builds on results of the successful previous conference in 2017, around 450 invited high-level representatives and stakeholders from Africa and Europe will debate on how to further unlock the potential for a positive rural transformation and an inclusive and sustainable agriculture and agri-food sector in Africa.

Programme Overview

The one-day programme features High Level Thematic Sessions, side events, keynote address and a plenary session. Three high level thematic sessions feature:-

  • Challenges and opportunities for agricultural investment
  • Agriculture research and innovation needs in light of climate challenge
  • Use of digital solutions in agriculture
