 In November 2020, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Office for Europe and ITU Regional Office for CIS, together with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, launched the “Digital Excellence in Agriculture: ITU-FAO Regional Contest in Europe and Central Asia". From the 200 practices received, 28 practices were selected as finalists of the contest based on their outstanding potential to spur innovation in the agriculture landscape and stimulate stakeholders to bring novel digital solutions to life.  

Within this context, FAO and ITU are pleased to invite you to the “Digital Excellence in Agriculture Awards Ceremony”, to be held on 23 September from 9:30 to 12:30 CEST.

This Awards Ceremony is being held within the framework of the ITU Regional Innovation Forum for Europe.

The Awards Ceremony will give an opportunity for the 28 finalists to pitch how their innovative ICT-based solutions can enhance market access to agriculture products and services, foster environmentally friendly agricultural practices, enable capacity development and empowerment, and encourage sharing of skills and technical expertise, among others. Following which, the 7 Awardees and 14 Honourable Mentions of the “Digital Excellence in Agriculture” title, as well as the 7 Champion Practices from the selected 18 countries of Europe and Central Asia will be announced.  

The Awards Ceremony will also be the occasion to provide an analysis of current technological trends identified during the Contest and their usage across the agricultural sector. It will further aim to support practitioners, small and large farm holders, and all stakeholders and partners who are transitioning to digital technologies and digital processes by presenting a set of scalable innovative solutions.   

Throughout the event, digital agriculture players will have the opportunity to discover how digital tools and services can solve challenges faced by the agricultural sector such as climate change, the increasing demand for food production, or price fluctuations in the international food market. This way, contributing to creating sustainable and resilient food systems across the regions.
