Seminar | Trade Policy, WTO and Development of Agricultural Markets in the Post-Soviet Countries

This workshop is a continuation of the FAO e-learning course Accession to the WTO and implications for agriculture in the countries of the post-Soviet space. 90 people took part in the course from 5 to 30 June 2017, hosted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

The participants who showed the best results in the course of training will take part in this in-depth seminar to deepen their knowledge. International experts and regional specialists will highlight the current issues related to trade negotiations and the development of agricultural trade, not only in the region, but also on the international arena. Followed discussions will broaden the understanding of the issues covered in the e-course, using the examples of individual countries and situations, and will facilitate the exchange of experience and knowledge among participants.

Expected results

During the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Improve their understanding of specific WTO trade rules related to agriculture, trade facilitation and ongoing negotiations in the WTO;

• Discuss issues and problems of trade and agricultural policies of some countries, as well as advantages and disadvantages of different approaches to trade and regional integration.
