4. Utilization of Oil bearing crops.
World supply of oil-bearing crops is used mainly for processing into oil, about 78.5%; for direct food, 10.5%; for seed, 2%; for feed, 5%; for industrial use almost 1% and waste 2.9%.
After processing, the actual use results to be as follows: food 23.4%, seed 2%, feed 38.1%, industrial use 5.8%, waste (including losses occurring during processing as well as water and inedible material) 30.5%.
Extraction rates are 22.7% for oil and 44.4% for oil cakes (World averages).
Corresponding percentages of utilization for Developed countries: before processing, processing into oil 82, direct food 3.8, seed 2.8, feed 7.5, industrial use 0.3 and waste 3.4. After processing, food 17, seed 2.8, feed 59.8, industrial use 8.1 and waste 12.3.
And for Developing countries: before processing and, in brackets, after processing: seed 1.9 (1.9), feed 3.8 (28.8), industrial use 1.2 (4.8), processing 77 (-), food 13.2 (26.2), waste 2.8 (38.3).
Average extraction rates for Developed countries: oil 25.4, cake 68.7. For Developing countries: oil 21.5, cake 33.8.

5. Importers and exporters of Oil bearing crops.
a) Primary (unprocessed) products
World trade amounts to some 50 million tons per year, slightly over 12% of World production, Developed countries, 35.5 millions, Developing countries 14.5 millions.
There are 12 countries net importers of at least 1.4% of the World imports; 8 are Developed countries and 4 Developing. Net imports of those countries all together amount to 33.5 millions.
