The 2026 EIFAAC International Symposium on MANAGING AND CONSERVING INLAND FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE RESOURCES IN A CHANGING WORLD will be hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture of Latvia and the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health, and Environment (BIOR) in Riga, Latvia on 5 to 7 October 2026

This International Symposium aims to facilitate interaction between European scientists and policymakers and to share inland fisheries and freshwater aquaculture research findings within the European region. The conclusions and recommendations of the Symposium are reported directly to the 33rd EIFAAC Session, which will be held on 7 to 9 October in Riga.

The symposium themes are:

  1. Managing Aquatic Genetic Resources: Innovative and Interdisciplinary Approaches
  2. From Hatchery to Habitat: Ensuring Fish Welfare and Restocking Success
  3. Climate Change and habitat conservation: impacts, challenges and trends
  4. Stock Assessment and Sustainable Use of Freshwater Fish: Integrated Management Strategies
  5. River-Sea Connectivity: Hydrological and Ecological Drivers and Their Impact on Migratory Species
  6. Stakeholder Engagement and Citizen Science: Lessons Learned and Future Directions
  7. Scientific and technical advances in freshwater aquaculture: Contributing to sustainable development and food security
  8. Stewards of the environment: How recreational fishers support aquatic biodiversity and habitat improvements
