Objective:

To reactivate the Desert Locust Monitoring and Control Centre (DLMCC) to fulfil its regional and international agreement commitments of controlling the desert locusts at breeding areas and implement a preventive control strategy.

Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.

Beneficiaries reached:

The DLMCC, as well as those farmers who will benefit from the Centre’s restored monitoring and control activities against desert locusts.

Activities implemented:
  • Rehabilitated the DLMCC infrastructure, including levelling, modifying and conducting required maintenance of parts of the main building of the centre, hangars and guards’ rooms.
  • Removed debris from outside the grounds of the DLMCC and established the appropriate slope to facilitate rainwater drainage.
  • Built storage rooms for temperature and humidity control.
  • Provided the relevant furniture and equipment for the different DMLCC units.
Impact:
  • Contributed to the smooth functioning and survey activities of the DLMCC, despite the difficult security situation in Yemen.
  • Facilitated the safe storage of Green Muscle (for biological control) through the construction of appropriate storage rooms.
  • Enabled better communication, surveying and information and control practices.
  • Strengthened regular surveys and data collection through the provision of spare parts to be used during surveys and control campaigns.
