Afghanistan | Certified wheat seed distribution
Thanks to generous support from the United States Agency for International Development, FAO is providing winter wheat to farmers across Afghanistan. On 8 November 2021 in the Daman District Centre of Kandahar Province, FAO distributed certified wheat seed and provided training on wheat cultivation and COVID-19 awareness. Each farmer received 50 kg of certified wheat seed and was trained on both topics. The wheat seed is high-quality, locally-adapted, drought-resistant and certified. With the seed provided, each farmer will be able to cultivate 2 jeribs (0.4 ha) of land, which will yield of 1.2-1.4 tonnes of wheat, enough cover the cereal needs of a family of seven for a full year. The winter wheat campaign has directly benefited 1.3 million people in 2021.
