Normes environnementales et sociales

How are the Environmental and Social Standards implemented in the project cycle?

The environmental and social risk management process applies to all FAO projects with a budget equal to or above US$100,000.

 FAO’s Environmental and Social Standards system aims to:

  • Identify, evaluate and manage the environmental and social risks and impacts of projects and programmes.
  • Set minimum requirements on how social and environmental factors must be integrated into projects and programmes.
  • Anticipate and avoid adverse environmental and social impacts;
  • Where avoidance is not feasible, minimize or mitigate risks to acceptable levels; and
  • Where significant residual impacts remain, compensate for/offset them whenever technically and financially feasible.
  • Promote resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems.
