In this course we introduce the concepts and tools of the Progressive Control Pathway for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (PCP-FMD). We introduce the challenge of FMD control, and how risk based approaches can be used to make best use of the limited resources available to us to control the disease. Then, we discuss the principles and standards of the PCP, and explain the typical activities carried out under the PCP's different stages. This course is suitable for all of those with an interest in FMD control in countries which are not free of the disease, from decision makers to field veterinarians.
