This paper is a case study of a sheep farm subclinically infected with FMD during the 2001 outbreak in the Netherlands. Linear hoof defects were noted in the infected sheep, and it was thought that the distance of the defects from the coronary band might indicate how long the animals had been infected for. The growth rate of the hooves of non-infected lambs and ewes was measured to try and determine a normal hoof growth rate over time for sheep and help estimate when the linear lesions in infected sheep had occured.
