Regional Workshop on Land Consolidation and Land Development
Prague, Czech Republic, 22/05/2006 - 24/05/2006
The 2006 Regional Workshop on Land Consolidation and Land Development built on the foundation laid by earlier regional workshops on land consolidation. This workshop, as with the regional workshop held in Prague in 2005, was sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Czech Republic, and the Land Tenure Service of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Participants came from Albania, Armenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia & Montenegro, Ukraine and the territory of Kosovo. Technical sessions were led by specialists from FAO and the Danish and Dutch land consolidation agencies.
The workshop's objectives were to:
- Inform people of what is happening in other countries of the region, thereby allowing them to know what experiences elsewhere could be of use to them.
- Strengthen the peer network in the region, thereby allowing people to contact others to find out more about what they are doing.
- Provide an opportunity for people from the region to learn more about international best practice from the western European land consolidation experts, and to be able to ask questions to these experts.
- Provide an opportunity to discuss technical aspects of land consolidation, with a particular focus on capacity building: how countries can develop the needed skills to carry out land consolidation.
Each country prepared a written case study and made a presentation at the workshop on recent activities and priorities for the future. The experiences of more advanced countries were helpful to the countries that are just starting land consolidation initiatives.
