FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia

Subregional meeting on brucellosis control

Skopje, TFYR Macedonia, 12/11/2014 - 13/11/2014

To assist Member Countries in developing control programmes aimed at controlling and eradicating brucellosis in animals and humans, the FAO has developed a strategic framework for progressive control of brucellosis using a stepwise approach with a roadmap of activities that when followed lead to reduction of brucellosis in livestock and humans, eventually leading to the self-declaration of brucellosis-free status as defined by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

In support of these efforts, FAO is planning to organize through the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, a coordination meeting to address the brucellosis situation in the region and discuss the strategic framework for progressive control of brucellosis as guide for developing national and regional strategies for effective and sustainable control of brucellosis in the region. The workshop will also address the socio-economic impact of brucellosis and analysis of cost and benefit of different brucellosis control strategies.
