The future of trade agreements in the CIS countries

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the countries in the region have expanded their participation in global agricultural trade, fuelled by market reforms and globalization. Deepening trade integration both within the CIS region and with external trade partners has contributed to greater participation in global markets. The countries are actively engaged in trade negotiations at the multilateral and regional level, which, in turn, poses new challenges for their agricultural sector.
This session examined the implications of greater trade openness for agriculture in the CIS and analysed agricultural sector reforms triggered by trade agreements.
