FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia

Expert consultation on food losses and waste in Europe and Central Asia

Budapest, Hungary, 22/11/2013 - 22/11/2013

On 22 November 2013 the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia of FAO organized an expert consultation related to its work on food losses and waste (FLW) in the region.
The project which is also a component of the Agrarian Structures Initiative intends to improve understanding of the underlying causes of FLW. The project approach is to update the assessment of FLW in the region based on the methodology applied in the Global Food Losses and Waste study and to identify and analyze critical points of FLW along selected food supply chains in selected countries of the region: Armenia, Ukraine and Turkey.
The expert consultation brought together experts that prepared the country studies, researchers and analysts of the topic, representatives of the private sector, international and national agencies involved in FLW programmes, and other relevant stakeholders.
