Inaugural meeting of the UNECE/FAO team of specialists on forest policy in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

The 2008 joint session of the UNECE Timber Committee and the FAO European Forestry Commission reviewed the mandate of the "Team of Specialists on Contribution of Forests to Sustainable Development in Eastern Europe", expanded its regional scope to Central Asia and set a focus on forest policy, as reflected in the new name of the "Team of Specialists on Forest Policy in Eastern Europe and Central Asia".
This team is expected to identify priority issues in countries of the region and promote a transparent regional discussion about priorities and best practices in reforming policies and institutions of the sector. It should advise the UNECE and FAO, on the implementation of their programmes. The mandate of the team has been approved by the joint session of the Timber Committee and the European Forest Commission.
