Gender statistics for the agricultural and rural sector

The FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia in close collaboration with the Committee on Statistics of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan is organizing a regional seminar for 12 post-soviet countries in Almaty, on 22-23 June 2016.
The conference will be attended by the representatives of the national statistical services and the ministries of agriculture. The objective of the conference is to sharing knowledge, information and good practices in production and use of gender statistics in the countries of Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia, with particular focus on agriculture and rural areas.
Ideas and recommendations expressed by the seminar participants will direct FAO’s further work in the region towards assisting the member-states to have the statistics that are sensitive to the needs of the most disadvantaged groups of rural population, and its parts who are engaged in agricultural sector. The regional seminar will also present the results of the «Strengthening national capacities for production and analysis of sex-disaggregated data through the implementation of the FAO Gender and Agriculture Framework (GASF)» project which has been accomplished in May 2016, with the support from FAO Turkish Partnership Programme, with the release of the Agri-Gender Toolkit, and other publications.
Expected presence of the representatives of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey at the regional seminar in Almaty should be useful from perspectives of the South-South cooperation and sharing policies, technology, and resources between the countries in the region under this important thematic area.
