Stakeholder consultation on the draft European Cormorant Management Plan

Virtual Event, 25/04/2025

The European Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Advisory Commission (EIFAAC) is organizing a Stakeholder consultation on the draft European Cormorant Management Plan. The cormorant population in Europe has increased over the last decades. This increase took place under protection by the EU Birds Directive. However, since the 1990s there are concerns about the impact of predation by cormorants on wild fish populations, recreational and commercial fisheries and aquaculture. The effects of cormorant predation on fish in rivers, aquaculture ponds, lakes and coastal areas and the associated conflicts continue to increase as the current measures to control bird depredation and damage have proved inadequate.
