NEW STORIES! Family farmers at the heart of climate-resilient and sustainable agrifood systems - Global call results
We sincerely appreciate the widespread participation in the “Global Call for Stories: Family farmers at the heart of climate-resilient and sustainable agrifood systems” held in 2025.
We are pleasantly surprised and grateful for the beautiful and inspiring stories received, with 273 total stories received from 68 countries, they showcase how family farmers around the world are leading the transformation towards climate-resilient and sustainable agrifood systems. This call shines a light and adds volume to the stories of family farmers to better understand and value how they sustainably manage natural resources, adapt to climate change, and conserve and restore biodiversity in agrifood systems.
Of these stories, 5 written stories were selected for publication and the input from 10 videos was featured in a single 1 video compilation. The selected stories are from India, the Philippines, Spain, Peru and Burundi. As part of the ‘Family farming is…’ advocacy campaign and United Nations Decade of Family Farming (2019-2028), they demonstrate how family farmers are at the heart of sustainability across a variety of themes, such as mountain farming, the empowerment of women farmers, traditional knowledge, climate resilience, agroecology, agroforestry, youth leadership and sustainable water use. All are available in English, French, and Spanish:

The Family Farming Knowledge Platform will continue to 📣 share stories, knowledge, and experiences of family farmers alongside its partners. The collective efforts and insights of a dedicated network of allies to the call were essential to the success of this call, including colleagues at FAO and IFAD and at : Access Agriculture, Agricultural Extension in South Asia (AESA), Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA), Asian Farmers´ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA), CIRAD, EncontrAR, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), Platform of Latin America and the Caribbean for Climate Action on Agriculture (PLACA), Schola Campesina, and World Rural Forum (WRF).
