Sowing seeds of equality
A global stocktaking of the integration of gender in Farmer Field School interventions
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and CARE USA collaborated in conducting a gender stocktaking exercise to enhance understanding of gender equality integration within Farmer Field School (FFS) programmes. The primary objective of this exercise was to better understand the extent to which FFS have addressed the different needs of men and women in their design and implementation, what gender-related results have been achieved through different approaches and what further steps are required to advance gender-transformative results for both men and women. This stocktaking highlights the transformative potential of farmer field schools in promoting positive changes in attitudes, behaviours and practices, contributing to improved gender relations and addressing the structural barriers to gender equality and women’s empowerment. The target audience for this document includes field practitioners, gender experts and relevant stakeholders involved in the design, implementation and evaluation of FFS programmes, with the goal of informing future strategies and improving gender equality outcomes.
