Stafva Farm, Gotland

Stafva farm has been in the von Corswant family since 1862. At present Patrik von Corswant is the owner and responsible for the management. The farm formerly comprised about 550 ha but is now divided between several owners.   The main farm has about 50 hectares of arable land and 50 of natural pasture. The main production is milk and cheese from 80 dairy cows with re The barn was rebuilt in 1985 to warm loose housing for 80 cows. The stable has automatic feeding. The feed is stored in a tower and a pit silo and distributed with a mixer wagon. Milking is done with a VMS robot. The young cattle stable has room for 120 animals. A central part of the business is a dairy that can offer a variety of different cheeses. Stafva Blue has been widely appreciated of the market. The Blue Cave cheese is matured in the natural chalk caves of Gotland. Hay and corn dominate crop production. Corn is an important feed crop, but can also use large amounts of liquid manure. Saffron is grown in the farm garden. Many thousands of purple crocus flowers are harvested. The pistils are handpicked and dried. Gotland is known for its saffron pancake.
