ECOFERM - The circular farm
Animal husbandry produces not only meat, milk and eggs but also manure, urine, heat, ammonia and CO2.These materials are not used optimal, they are regarded as waste. That is why InnovationNetwork started to develop the ECOFERM - The circular farm. Here, minerals, CO2 and heat are used to grow duckweed and algae, that are fed to the calves. For this purpose a glasshouse is build on top of the stable for year-round production of duckweed and algae. Outside, several ponds were created for growing duckweed. This system started in October 2013 and the first results of this pilot project are expected in 2014.
