Indigenous women researchers speak their knowledge in an academic voice
The FAO, in partnership with Thompson Rivers University (TRU), is amplifying the voices of Indigenous women researchers through academic platforms, recognizing them as vital knowledge holders in agri-food systems, biodiversity conservation, and climate action. Indigenous women, often invisible in data and decision-making, play a crucial role as seed keepers, food providers, and guardians of ecosystems. The “Knowledge Makers” programme brings together 21 Indigenous women from 16 countries to conduct and publish research rooted in their communities’ lived experiences and traditional practices. These efforts aim to bridge Indigenous knowledge and academic research, promote inclusive policymaking, and highlight Indigenous women's leadership in sustainability and land stewardship.
