Rural Women in Tanzania Build Financial Resilience Through Groups

This case study highlights the experiences of rural women farmers in Tanzania, focusing on the story of Mama Aisha, a smallholder farmer in Kilosa. Despite their critical role in agricultural production and family livelihood, rural women face systemic challenges in accessing formal financial services due to limited mobility, lack of collateral, and climate-related risks. BRAC Tanzania Finance Ltd. (BTFL), a microfinance institution with a predominantly female client base, addresses these gaps by offering tailored financial support through women's groups, promoting income diversification, and supporting financial literacy.
