Video on climate-smart practice helps Malagasy farmer combat drought
Rice is the most important staple food of Madagascar, with many families eating it three times a day. But as rice is a water-intensive crop, which grows mainly in flooded fields, it is extremely sensitive to droughts. So, when a severe drought hit the country in late 2024, rice farmers were particularly affected as it coincided with the beginning of the rice planting season – a critical time for the crop.
