International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026
The United Nations General Assembly has declared 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer. This observance represents a key opportunity to highlight and strengthen the role of women in agriculture, promoting their access to productive resources, technology, training, and markets, as well as their full participation in decision-making.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with other UN agencies, will lead initiatives to drive actions that address gender inequalities in agrifood systems, while strengthening the resilience and empowerment of rural women.
Through this celebration, the aim is to foster a global commitment to ensure that rural women can fully exercise their rights and their role in food and nutrition security, and in building more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient agrifood systems.
