Advancing parliamentary action for gender equality and investments in the agrifood sector

A series of high-level parliamentarians’ fora on inclusive investments in food systems for gender equality and zero hunger have been organized by FAO over the last years. The National Capacity Development Workshop for Parliamentarians and High-Level Multi-Stakeholder Policy Dialogue on Gender Equality and Investments in Agriculture and Food Security aimed to enhance the capacities of parliamentarians and other relevant actors to engage with country priorities and important ongoing policy processes. Participants included members of the Sierra Leone Parliament; members of women’s networks, farmers’ organizations and civil society organizations; academia; and key private sector actors. The report highlights a series of capacity development activities organized at both international and country level in recent years in enhancing parliamentary action on gender. It also presents some tailored tools recently developed by FAO and available for parliamentarians willing to learn more on the subject, framing this important body of work within recent developments in the broader international agenda and the growing recognition of the important role parliamentarians can play towards the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
