Arab Forum for Rural Advisory Services (AFRAS) Country brief- Bahrain
Arab Forum for Rural Advisory Services (AFRAS) strengthens rural advisory and extension systems across the Arab region by linking public, private, and civil-society providers to scale inclusive, climate-smart services. In Bahrain, agriculture land represented 10.3 percent of the country’s total area in 2022, with only 2.7 percent arable (World Bank, 2022). Farms are generally small, with 75 percent under 3 hectares, but farming families are large, often with 4–11 members.Despite water scarcity and limited arable land, Bahrain is promoting sustainable, resource-efficient systems, especially small-scale horticulture.
