Harnessing Circularity: Small local processing can unlock economic and ecosystem multipliers

The story highlights how, in Jagathipalli Burjaguda, a small rice mill has quietly transformed everyday life. Paddy no longer travels downhill, processing no longer leaks value outside the village, and by-products now support poultry, cattle, pigs, and fish within nearby communities. What was once a dependency has evolved into a vital village-level service.

This Sankranti, we celebrate the inspiring journey of Savara Ganesh and many such tribal entrepreneurs in Manyam district, who are strengthening local food systems through small processing units supported under the HDFC Bank Parivartan Programme. These enterprises are keeping food, income, and nutrients circulating locally—reviving millets, reducing costs for farmers, and strengthening circular economies at the tribal Gram Panchayat level.
