Europe and Central Asia (ECA) is a diverse region with varied food systems, economies, infrastructure, and climates. Sustainable development and food security are major challenges, exacerbated by socioeconomic shocks and climate change. Incorporating science-based climate and market information into agricultural planning and policies can help manage these risks effectively. This report includes a literature review and outlines best practices for market information systems (MIS) in agriculture and food security. It provides practical pointers for establishing or improving MIS. To strengthen national price and market information systems for agriculture and food security in the seven countries, this report recommends improvements in legislation, cooperation, stakeholder engagement, and capacity development in FAO food price monitoring and analysis (FPMA) tools and G20 AMIS country food balance sheets, crop forecasting, farmers’ access to a price market information system (PMIS), and so on.
