Sri Lanka: DIEM-Impact assessment of cyclone Ditwah, February 2026
Cyclone Ditwah made landfall over the central-eastern coast of Sri Lanka on 27 November 2025.It then continued northward and inland. On 28 November 2025, its centre was located over northern Sri Lanka. Cyclone Ditwah triggered one of Sri Lanka’s most severe humanitarian crises in the last two decades and affected all 25 districts and multiple Divisional Secretariats. The hardest hit areas include Colombo and Gampaha (Western province); Batticaloa, Ampara and Trincomalee (Eastern province); Mannar and Mullaitivu (Northern province); and the central highlands of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. In the aftermath of the disaster, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) assessed the damages, losses and rehabilitation needs through key informant interviews that have informed this Data in Emergencies Impact (DIEM-Impact) report.
