Meet Mary an exemplary Kenyan coffee farmer
Mary Wairimu Oloo, who lives in Kenya’s Trans Nzoia County, moved back to her family’s coffee farm after retiring from a government role. Since then she has been diligently improving productivity on the farm, diversifying her income and helping others along the way.
Mary Wairimu Oloo is not just a wife and mother of four, but a coffee farmer with VISION!
After retiring from her government job in 2017, Mary decided to expand her family’s coffee farm. That decision was motivated by hope and her strong desire to earn a decent living post-retirement.
Before retiring from her role as a Revenue Officer at the Kenya Revenue Authority, Mary characterized herself as a "telephone farmer," or a person who hires a farm manager to make decisions for her.
Once she returned, she set straight to work renovating and expanding her coffee plot, and diversifying production with technical support from Solidaridad. Her ambition to nurture and grow a successful farming enterprise now serves as an example to other women in her community.
