Market-oriented agricultural training

Agriculture plays a key role in the economic and social development of Georgia. Though over half of the active population works in this sector, it makes up only 17% of the GDP. The rural population has not benefited from the economic growth of recent years and is as a result considerably poorer than the urban population, causing inequalities to rise. Increasing both the agricultural sector's productivity and farmers' incomes is therefore a way to improve the situation of a large section of the population.

By supporting the development of quality agricultural extension services and vocational training, this project aims to improve the productivity of the agricultural sector and to stimulate job creation, which in turn will increase income among the rural population. The project focuses on three areas.

Firstly, a modular and flexible training programme is developed by taking into account farmers' specific needs: it must ensure that they spend more time on the farm than at the training centre, and it is directed at practical knowledge which can be applied immediately.
