In the town of Berd, Armenia, a group of women farmers are proving the power of collaboration through the "Berd Bean" Women’s Association. Faced with challenges like fragmented landholdings and limited market access, they have joined forces to cultivate and market beans more efficiently. With support from the LEAD programme, funded by the EU and implemented by FAO and UNDP, they have gained essential business and marketing skills, allowing them to negotiate better prices, secure agreements with supermarkets, and explore export opportunities. By pooling resources and supporting one another, they are not only improving their own livelihoods but also inspiring other women to pursue economic empowerment in rural Armenia. Like the resilient beans they grow, their confidence and independence continue to flourish.
