Strengthening communication skills of young researchers in Francophone West Africa
For many years, research has been criticised for taking place in isolated “ivory towers,” disconnected from the real needs of society. Today, however, a new generation of African researchers, who are increasingly embracing agroecology as a pathway toward more sustainable and equitable food systems, are redefining this narrative. Motivated by a desire to create meaningful change and work hand-in-hand with rural communities, young scholars across Francophone West Africa, were equipped with skills to effectively use video and social media tools to bridge the gap between science and the public, during a recent regional workshop organised at the Songhaï Centre in Porto Novo, Benin.
