Rural Women in Peru Seed Water Today to Harvest It Tomorrow
In Huasao, near Cuzco, Peru, small-scale farmer Kely Quispe recalls a time when water was abundant. Today, due to increasing droughts, her community faces growing water shortages. She is part of the Agroecological School of the Flora Tristán Peruvian Women's Center, which promotes traditional water conservation methods like "seeding and harvesting water." The initiative supports Quechua-speaking rural communities in the Andean region through feminist, nature-based solutions to restore water sources and improve sustainable water use.
