Region: Global
Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Description:
Haller provides a model for economic development that is both sustainable and environmentally sound, putting into practice the principles of Dr Rene Haller, a UNEP Global Laureate renowned for his work in transforming degraded industrial landscapes through environmental regeneration. Our programmes breathe life into the land and revive local economies, enabling communities and ecosystems to thrive. We work in partnership with ultra-poor farmers in Kenya, providing them with the skills, tools & infrastructure to revive degraded landscapes and build self-sustaining livelihoods through regenerative agriculture. We work predominantly with rural women, since they are proven to be the most significant catalyst in improving the livelihoods of entire families. Since our inception in 2004, 56 communities, amounting to 45,000+ smallholder farmers, have completed the ‘Haller Journey’ and lifted themselves out of poverty. The Haller Journey is a successful, sustainable development model that is innovative as it is not based upon aid or dependency; instead it’s a low-cost, high-impact, replicable and integrated model for sustainable development that enables communities to lift themselves out of poverty – working at once to sustainably meet basic human needs and build economic capacity.
