Food Security and Nutrition for All
Italy and FAO collaborate to promote healthier diets, food security and nutrition for all, with a view to implement the 2030 Agenda and translate political commitment into concrete actions.
In depth

Nutrition
FAO and Italy’s joint work on nutrition has strengthened livelihoods in rural areas and built resilience to food crises in affected countries. FAO will continue to seek collaborations with Italian partners that harness this collective energy to eradicate hunger worldwide.

Hand in Hand Initiative
Since 2019, the Hand-in-Hand Initiative represents one of FAO's main priority programme areas. Through it, Italy supports ambitious country-led programmes that accelerate the transformation of agrifood systems so they are better equipped to eliminate poverty (SDG 1), end hunger and malnutrition (SDG 2), and reduce inequality (SDG 10).

Food Coalition
FAO leads the Food Coalition, which aims to transform agrifood systems and to build alliances in support of countries that need it most. This includes collective responses to increasing food insecurity, intensifying climate shocks, and instability in global food and agriculture. Italy was one of the first countries to join the Coalition and remains a key player in its work.

G20
The Italian G20 Presidency hosted a two-day meeting focused on the sustainability of agriculture and food systems. Efforts have been made to push food security higher up the agenda, as underscored in the Matera Declaration.

Mountain Partnership
Italy, the first funder of the Mountain Partnership, is at the forefront of protecting mountain ecosystems and societies, which represent one of the country's most prominent environments. The Mountain Partnership is a voluntary alliance of governments and organizations committed to working together to achieve sustainable mountain development worldwide.

General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean
Italy is one of the 23 contracting parties of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean, whose main objective is to ensure the conservation and the sustainable use of living marine resources, as well as the sustainable development of aquaculture in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

World Food Forum
Italy is home to the World Food Forum (WFF), an independent, youth-led global network of partners facilitated by FAO. Every year, the WFF organises a flagship event in Rome to spark a global movement that empowers young people everywhere to take part in building better agrifood systems in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and a better future for all.

World Food Day 2023
Italy is home to FAO headquarters. As the host country, it continues to show support and create interest in World Food Day through its campaign "Together for the SDGs".
This multicity initiative includes high-level events in Naples, Trieste and Palermo.
