تأسست لجنة التنسيق لهيئة الدستور الغذائي في آسيا في الاجتماع الحادي عشر لهيئة الدستور الغذائي الذي عقد في روما، إيطاليا، في تموز/ يوليو 1976. وتم عقد اجتماعها الأول في نيودلهي (الهند) في كانون الثاني/ يناير 1977.
تهدف اليابان، بصفتها المنسق الإقليمي لآسيا، إلى تحقيق الأهداف التالية مع الحفاظ على القيم الأساسية للدستور الغذائي، أي الشمولية والتعاون وبناء الإجماع والشفافية
- تعزيز التعاون والتنسيق داخل المنطقة من خلال تسهيل تبادل الآراء، حتى يتسنى للأعضاء الآسيويين أن يكونوا على دراية جيدة ويشاركوا بشكل فعال في اللجنة وهيئاتها الفرعية؛ و
- تشجيع المناقشات المفتوحة والبناءة في لجنة التنسيق الإقليمية لتحديد القضايا الحالية والناشئة والحرجة المتعلقة بحماية صحة المستهلك وضمان الممارسات العادلة في تجارة الأغذية داخل المنطقة، ومعالجة هذه القضايا في الوقت المناسب.
