في عام 1999، أنشأتلدورة الثالثة والعشرون لهيئة الدستور الغذائيلجنة التنسيق الإقليمية لهيئة الدستور الغذائي في الشرق الأدنى، والتي جمعت بين بلدان منطقة الشرق الأدنى (لمنظمة الأغذية والزراعة) ومنطقة شرق المتوسط (لمنظمة الصحة العالمية) جلستها الأولىفي القاهرة بمصر في عام 2001
عمل المنسق الإقليمي الحالي للشرق الأدنى في مركز سلامة وجودة الأغذية التابع لوزارة الثروة الزراعية والسمكية وموارد المياه بمسقط.
تتمثل أهداف سلطنة عُمان، من خلال توليها دور المنسق الإقليمي لمنطقة الشرق الأدنى ورئاسة اللجنة التنسيقية لهيئة الدستور الغذائي المشتركة بين منظمة الأغذية والزراعة ومنظمة الصحة العالمية في فيما يلي:
- تعزيز الجهود الرامية إلى تقوية المشاركة الفعالة للدول الأعضاء وجميع اصحاب المصلحة، بما في ذلك المنتجون والمستهلكون والمنظمات الحكومية وغير الحكومية ذات الصلة في منطقة الشرق الأدنى، في جلسات هيئة الدستور الغذائي.
- مواصلة بناء وتعزيز القدرات الوطنية لدى الدول الأعضاء والمنظمات الإقليمية لتمكينها من المشاركة الفعالة في وضع المواصفات الدولية للأغذية.
- ضمان أن تُراعي عملية وضع مواصفات هيئة الدستور الغذائي، على المستوى العالمي، لخصوصيات إنتاج واستهلاك الأغذية في منطقة الشرق الأدنى.
- تشجيع اعتماد مواصفات هيئة الدستور الغذائي واستخدامها كأساس للقرارات التنظيمية الوطنية للأغذية في الدول الأعضاء في المنطقة. ومن شأن هذا أن يؤثر إيجاباً على صحة المستهلك ويسهل تجارة المنتجات الغذائية على المستويين الإقليمي والدولي، كما سيساهم بشكل أكبر في تطوير إنتاج الغذاء في المنطقة، مع زيادة القدرة التنافسية على المستويين الإقليمي والدولي.
The Qatar General Authority for Standardization and Metrology held World Food Safety Day events on 7 and 8 June under the theme “Food standards save lives”. Celebrations took place in collaboration with the Municipality, Qatar University, and Monoprix supermarkets and included a popup stall showcasing awareness videos and emphasizing the importance of food safety to consumers and children.
